A NOTE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:
We’ve just celebrated pride with thousands of people across our cities and state.
We’re feeling exhausted, empowered and celebrated.
Our hearts are full.
What an adventure the last few months have been. In the state of Minnesota we passed bills banning conversion therapy, protecting reproductive health care, and making us a Trans Refuge state. Just this morning, we witnessed the passing of a resolution honoring drag and free speech in the city of Minneapolis. With the continued passing of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across our country, we know we are surrounded by a lot of hate and fear, but in our QUEERSPACE world we are also feeling A LOT of love.
I can’t tell you the number of times I heard “thank you for starting QUEERSPACE collective – we needed this” and “our kids deserve the safe spaces and support y’all are providing” and “you are saving my child’s life, they wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you” over the past few weeks.
Including the word “collective” in QUEERSPACE collective was not done lightly. We knew from the beginning we were committed to creating a community, a QUEERSPACE community, to provide much needed support to our queer and trans youth.
Thank you for being such an important part of this community, this collective. Through mentoring, volunteering, donating and cheerleading you continue to show up.
It is such an honor and privilege to lead this new and growing organization. My gratitude runs so deep.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
