LEARN ABOUT OUR VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Representation matters. If you can see it, you can be it.
As a volunteer youth mentor, you'll have the opportunity to support the next generation of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth by being another trusting, affirming adult in their life and helping them develop a deeper sense of belonging, cultural identity, and pride.
There are two ways you can mentor:
1:1 Mentorship Program (Twin Cities)
2SLGBTQIA+ adults are matched with 2SLGBTQIA+ youth (ages 13-17) based on youth voice, youth choice, and shared interests. Mentors and mentees independently meet 2-3 times per month for a year to hang out, set and accomplish goals, and build resilience through meaningful engagement.
Volunteer Requirements:
-
Identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
-
Age 25 or older
-
Based in the Twin Cities metro area
-
Able to commit 1-year minimum to the program
-
Able to attend monthly group hangouts and connect 2-3 times per month with your mentee
-
Complete and pass a screening process, including a background check, reference checks, and pre-match training
Group Youth Workshops (Twin Cities & St. Cloud)
Youth Workshops provide a welcoming, group-based mentorship experience centered on building skills, community, and intergenerational connection. Workshops are co-hosted with a local community partner to offer unique experiences like STEM, sports, DJing, theatre, arts and crafts, and more.
Participants meet once per week - consistent day, time, and location - for 3-8 weeks, depending on the experience. Each workshop includes a facilitator, 2-3 adult 2SLGBTQIA+ mentors, and up to 16 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
Volunteer Requirements:
-
Identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
-
Age 25 or older
-
Based in the Twin Cities Metro or St. Cloud Area
-
Able to commit to a 3-8 week program, which meets once weekly
-
Complete and pass a screening process, a background check, reference checks, and group mentoring training

How can I volunteer?
-
All volunteers must complete a virtual orientation training to learn more about QUEERSPACE collective and the duties and responsibilities of volunteer opportunities.
-
After you've completed your orientation, you'll start receiving our volunteer e-newsletters where you can access upcoming volunteer opportunities to sign up for.
-
Before signing up for an opportunity - confirm you meet all the requirements, including time commitment and tasks assigned.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Due to staff capacity, we've put a pause on our volunteer orientation sessions. We hope to start these back up again (tentatively February 2026) so if you'd like to be notified, please email us at info@queerspacecollective.org. General volunteers must complete an orientation before they can sign up for any opportunity.
For current volunteers, please see upcoming opportunities via our volunteer e-newsletter or email us at info@queerspacecollective.org if you're not receiving our emails.
