Katie Miller
Katie is grateful to have worked for many years directly with young people in experiencing homelessness and housing instability. A great deal of what she knows and what guides her work was developed from her direct service years. She credits the young people she was privileged to work alongside as her true teachers. They provided her with a depth of knowledge and insight that has shaped how she engages with others. Subsequently she held several non-profit management and administrator roles at various agencies serving people experiencing homelessness. In these roles she oversaw programming and staff development.
She now holds the position of Community Navigator for the Office of Violence Prevention in the Minneapolis Police Department. Katie is within the Violent Crimes and Special Crimes Investigation Division. In this role she assists MPD Investigators with on scene response to provide emotional support, guidance to resources, direct communication and follow-up with individuals impacted by the incident. Additionally, Katie is on the Negotiator Unit and Peer Support Team within MPD.
